Actor Ranveer Singh, shocked everyone on the sets of Lootera when he hurt himself to give real emotion for a scene. "In one of the sequences of Lootera, the actor was supposed to be in pain. He asked for a safety pin and repeatedly pierced himself while giving this particular shot," said a source. "The director and the unit members were dead against it, but Ranveer's argument was that it is a really poignant scene and every stab of pain was enhancing his performance." "When the team saw the performance on the edit table, they were sure it would touch the hearts of the audiences," the source added. The period romance drama, directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, pairs Ranveer with actress Sonakshi Sinha.
